Timeless Waters to Waterless Times

Human Intervention

Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 24’’ x 24’’

While we watch our glaciers melt more than they can hope to get replenished, owing to the anthropogenic disruption of the water cycle, lets not see it only as a disastrous fallout of human intervention, which it no doubt is, but also as an open challenge to humanity to save the situation and consequently, the planet we call home. No other specie has impacted the planet as much as we have, and though its current state reflects an apathetic stupor, it may not yet be too late to rethink our goals and shift gears towards a more pro-planet existence. Looks like its high time we justified our self-anointed position as the most intelligent specie - by developing sustainable technological solutions for energy efficiency, restoring natural processes and concentrating on renewable resources. What was a huge part of the problem can also be a huge part of the solution – human intervention.

The champagne saucer here symbolizes the excessiveness of human consumption, which pushes our ecosystems to the brink. Raising our living standards is rational only when there is a corresponding reduction of our impact on the natural world. We need to protect it as the source of water.
